Abstract

The article discusses the Mitchell Institute Physics Enhancement Program (MIPEP), which aims to support high school physics teachers who have little to no background in the subject. The program, run by the physics faculty at Texas A&M University, focuses on increasing teachers' physics content knowledge, improving their confidence in teaching physics, and introducing research-based instructional strategies. MIPEP includes intensive two-week sessions with content-focused instruction, inquiry-based labs, and enrichment activities. The program has shown positive impacts on participants' knowledge and confidence, and it is suggested that similar programs could be implemented by other physics departments to improve physics instruction at the high school level.
