Abstract

Ubiquitous computing is fundamentally built upon the smooth incorporation of smart devices and technology into our everyday surroundings, facilitating an interconnected and automated world. This article explores the application and relevance of smart devices in monitoring and maintaining hygiene standards on university campuses. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic underscoring the significance of robust hygiene practices in public spaces, especially in educational institutions, the implementation of smart devices can play a pivotal role in preventing the spread of infections. These devices facilitate reduced indirect contact through automation, offer real-time cleanliness information for various areas, and notify relevant stakeholders when attention is needed. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, this study examines the advantages and potential drawbacks of deploying smart hygiene monitoring systems in educational settings. Moreover, essential considerations for successful deployment, including data protection, user acceptance, and infrastructure requirements, are highlighted. The research reveals that leveraging smart devices has the potential to significantly enhance hygiene practices on university campuses, thereby serving as a vital tool in curbing the transmission of illnesses in public environments.
