Abstract

Ferrofluid is commonly used in the treatment of cancer due to its ability to be altered by a magnetic field. The present study aims to investigate the characteristics of a ferrofluid flow over a stretching sheet with a magnetic dipole. The influence of the magnetic dipole on a nano-ferrofluid and ferrofluid is compared and analyzed. The dimensionless governing equations of the fluids are simplified by utilizing the similarity transformation technique. The MATLAB solver bvp4c is then applied to solve the transformed governing equation. The impact of the magnetic field strength and the nanoparticle volume fraction on the fluid are discussed graphically. The temperature field and local skin friction have a direct relation with the ferrohydrodynamic and nanoparticles volume fraction parameters, whereas reverse tendency is detected for the velocity and heat transfer rate. Furthermore, the velocity field is enhanced as the distance of the magnetic dipole increases. The volume fraction of the nanoparticle cobalt ferrite reduces the rate of heat transfer by 10.44%. This outcome may aid in the treatment of cancer by causing high temperatures in the targeted tissue or organ, leading to the death of cancer cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
