Abstract

A case report describes a 2-year-old boy who developed hypercalciuria while being treated with topiramate for seizures. The boy also showed lack of efficacy when treated with calcitonin for hypercalciuria. He had other medical conditions, including developmental delays, neuromuscular weakness, and oropharyngeal dysphagia. The boy's hypercalcemia was initially thought to be due to the ketogenic diet and topiramate, but further investigation revealed it was likely a result of the topiramate therapy. Despite treatment with calcitonin, his calcium levels remained elevated, but eventually normalized with adjustments to his diet and hydration. [Extracted from the article]
