Abstract

This article explores the concept of reusing wastewater as a method of producing drinking water in water-stressed regions. It discusses the public acceptance of this practice and highlights the One Water Brewing Showcase, where attendees had the opportunity to try craft beers made from highly purified wastewater. The article also addresses water scarcity issues in Arizona and proposes various techniques to mitigate the problem. It explains different categories of water reuse, including indirect and direct reuse, and the challenges associated with direct potable reuse (DPR). The article emphasizes the importance of addressing public resistance to using wastewater as a source of drinking water and suggests considering individuals' subjective experiences and perceptions when promoting water reuse. It also discusses historical efforts to make municipal water taste and smell like nothing, creating a disconnect between individuals and their environment. The article concludes by highlighting the use of beer as a tool to change public perception of wastewater reuse and promote its acceptance as a viable technology. [Extracted from the article]
