Abstract

On November 21, 2022, a 5.6 Mw earthquake occurred in Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia which gave severe damage to buildings. As of May 2023, the work of post-earthquake reconstruction work is still ongoing and requires attention for the construction of earthquake-resistant structures. Therefore, this research focuses on investigating the structures of damaged buildings due to the earthquake. The most of the damaged buildings suffered due to a lack of knowledge about earthquake-resistant construction, specifically buildings with structural designs capable of withstanding lateral loads. Post-earthquake building construction will be carried out with recommended reinforcements emphasizing structural loads, column-beam joints, overall structure, structural rigidity, and materials. Seismic performance can be significantly improved by installing seismic bands around brick walls. Additional reinforcement is necessary in the door and window frames as these areas are the most vulnerable to damage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
