Abstract
- Based on an analysis of telephone interviews with over 2,000 households, the analysis examines respondents’ support for the extension of local option sales taxes to support transportation. A variety of predictors are assessed, and the results indicate that after a variety of conventional and self-interest measures are included, the most important factors influencing support are those having to do with attitudes towards policies, elected officials, and how trustworthy officials are. Opposition is rooted among a core of apparently anti-government, ant-tax, and anti-public spending "taxrebels." [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
