Abstract

The article explores the significance of ephemeral river islands in eastern Colombia as important habitats for migratory songbirds. These islands, which appear during the dry season, offer dense vegetation that serves as roosting and foraging grounds for various species of migratory songbirds. The study observed a large number of migratory songbirds, including Barn Swallows, Fork-tailed Flycatchers, Bank Swallows, Dickcissels, Yellow Warblers, and Northern Waterthrushes, utilizing these islands. The presence and abundance of these birds coincide with the flood cycles of the Meta River and the availability of insects. The article emphasizes the need to understand the nonbreeding ecology of migratory species in order to protect their habitats. [Extracted from the article]
