Comment to: Ventral hernia repair in high-risk patients and contaminated fields using a single mesh: proportional meta-analysis.

A recent article published in the journal Hernia conducted a meta-analysis on the use of different mesh materials in ventral hernia repair (VHR). The study found that the use of biosynthetic/slowly absorbable mesh reinforcement resulted in lower rates of recurrence and complications in complicated VHR cases. However, there were some concerns raised about the study, including the higher rate of surgical site infection in the synthetic mesh group and the limited number of comparative studies included in the analysis.
