Abstract
- The article describes the work of nature conservation ambassador Charlie Esser on the island of Sylt. Various nature conservation associations work together to protect the nature on the island. There are protected areas for various bird species and measures such as electric fences to keep predators away. The nature conservation ambassador communicates between nature conservation associations, communities, and tourism. However, there are also threats such as predators from neighboring islands and storm surges. Nevertheless, many chicks were able to successfully fledge this year. There are various nature conservation projects on the island, such as the deepening of dune valleys for amphibians and reptile monitoring. Invasive plant species are also removed and habitats for rare species are created. In winter, there are resting zones for seals and grey seals. Nature conservation on Sylt is based on cooperation.
