Abstract

Jasmonic acid (JA) is an endogenous hormone widely found in higher plants, playing a crucial role in plant development and stress response. Recent studies using JA synthesis and signal transduction mutants or transgenic materials have advanced our understanding of tomato reproductive organ development. In this review, we summarize the recent progress on the role of JA in tomato floral organs and fruit development, emphasizing both endogenous and exogenous JA effects. It highlights the changes observed in the carpels, stamens, and seeds of the JA-insensitive mutant jai1, as well as the intrinsic molecular mechanisms regulated by JA. Further, fruit ripening and nutrient accumulation affected by the JA-regulated gene were discussed. Understanding the molecular regulation mechanisms of tomato reproductive organ development by JA opens new opportunities for agricultural application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
