Abstract
- The quality and safety of the patient are essential characteristics in all healthcare professions. In Mexico, these attributes are reflected in a regulatory framework that governs healthcare. Therefore, knowledge of this framework by dentists and specialists is essential for their professional and ethical practice. The Mexican legal system is classified according to its hierarchy and its material, spatial, and validity scopes. This legislation begins with the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, which establishes the right to health protection for the population. Next, the General Health Law (GHL) sets out the general guidelines for the profession. Following that are the regulations that impact the regulation of dentistry. Finally, there are the Official Mexican Standards (OMS) clinical practice guidelines (CPG), lex artis, jurisprudence, and individualized standards. However, this regulatory framework comprises a variety of norms and regulations that are interconnected. Therefore, this article provides an overview of how this regulatory framework addresses the quality and safety of dental patient care in Mexico. This regulatory framework is mandatory, but monitoring to ensure compliance in offices and clinics presents challenges, given that dentistry is a service mainly provided in the private sector. Developing and implementing effective monitoring and supervision mechanisms specifically designed for dental services in the private sector is essential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
