Abstract

Hydronephrosis is a pathology caused by obstruction of urinary flow leading to dilation of the renal pelvis. This report demonstrates the clinical case of a patient whose uroliths caused total obstruction of the renal pelvis and atrophy of the renal parenchyma, leading to severe unilateral hydronephrosis that resulted in nephrectomy. The objective of this work was to demonstrate the importance of annual evaluation by a veterinarian to diagnose renal disorders in their initial stage, as in the vast majority of cases the resolution does not culminate in nephrectomy. After nephrectomy with adequate monitoring of renal function, it was possible to maintain a quality of life even after nephrectomy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
