Abstract

The study evaluated the impact of adding new clinical variables to the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score to improve predictive accuracy for in-hospital mortality. The modified SOFA (mSOFA) score included additional components such as high-flow nasal oxygenation, platelet transfusion, and lactate levels. However, the study found that these additions did not significantly enhance the predictive power of the score due to the high score assignment for new items. The research suggests that adjusting clinical thresholds rather than simply adding new items may lead to more accurate predictions in critical care settings. [Extracted from the article]
