Abstract

The text discusses the history and dismantling of Kyoto University's Primate Research Institute (KUPRI) due to unauthorized use of research funds and academic forgery. The unauthorized use of funds by faculty members, including Tetsuro Matsuzawa, led to significant financial discrepancies and legal issues. The academic forgery by another faculty member, Nobuo Masataka, also contributed to the institute's closure. The restructuring of KUPRI resulted in the termination of faculty positions and programs, impacting the future of primatology in Japan. The closure has raised concerns about the welfare of the primates previously housed at KUPRI. [Extracted from the article]
