Abstract
- Objective: To understand the experience of self-care of the elderly person in the post-pandemic transition COVID-19. Method: Qualitative phenomenological study, conducted in a city of Mexico, from March to December 2021. The sample was intentional with 8 participants, determined by the criterion of information saturation. Inclusion criteria were: men and women aged 60 years or older, linked to elderly community groups. Data analysis: carried out through the hermeneutic circle: Pre-understanding, Understanding and Interpretation. All participants gave their informed consent. Results: The testimonies allowed us to apprehend six themes: Protective measures and physical care; Awareness of being an elderly person; Care in the face of the infodemic; Being cared for by the family and caring for the other; Learning after the pandemic; Self-care present in the lived experience of the elderly person. Conclusion: The elderly person transits the tempo-rality of their care, and cannot be separated into a before and after, but rather, an understanding of being an elderly person in self-care throughout a phase of learning and internalization of one's own care.
