Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the social role assigned to women through the narratives of She-Ra and Boruto's animations, making connections with the locations where they were created. Boruto and She-Ra were chosen because they were released and completed in relatively close periods and produced in different parts of the world--East and West, respectively. The goal is to establish a relationship between the narratives of these animations and the cultural aspects related to gender roles in the countries that produced them, identify whether an animation can carry gender-related biases, and discuss the different perceptions of women's roles in the West and the East, using She-Ra and Boruto as examples. As a result, it is possible to observe how animations are influenced by gender issues and how they affect and are connected to the lives of various people. Although it is impossible to assert a causal relationship between the region producing the animation and the presence or absence of biases, this work highlights that animations are influenced by their social environment.
