Abstract

In Algeria, in the last decade, and in the dynamics of first independent artistic events organised in 2014 and more recently through the Hirak demonstrations (2019), we can observe a renewal of the forms and places of expression of civil society, in the main cities of the country, which questions the relationship to public space, to outdoor art and to the public. Thus, artistic practices, which oscillate between aesthetic approach and political speech, independently or simultaneously, highlight urban, social and cultural deficiencies. And they reconfigure in part the function of the city and contribute to become both a testimony and a medium of narratives of the civil society. In this perspective, this article wants to question, in the Algerian radiance and in a constrained context, the power real and/or supposed of outdoor art, his contribution to (re)appropriation, (re)aestheticization, (re)politicization of public space, through urban requalifications and citizen rehabilitations.
