Based on archival material in the Diocese of Bosnia or Đakovo and Srijem (Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek), we investigated petitions for the return of former Catholics to the Catholic Church. Out of 455 petitions, the Ordinariate in Đakovo approved the return of 433 people. Former Catholics - reverts - transitioned to the Serbian Orthodox Church because of mixed marriages, because of divorce and the possibility of entering into a new church marriage, as well as because of state pressure on Catholic teachers, civil officials, military personnel, doctors and lawyers.
