Abstract
- This study focuses on the village institutes, which deserve to be on the agenda for the 100th anniversary of our Republic and which are at an important point in terms of our educational history. The importance of the village institutes in our country, each of which was carefully built as a result of organized architectural competitions and which were the pioneers of development and change in the region where they were located, should be remembered again. In this context, Pazarören Village Institute Campus, located in the Pınarbaşı district of Kayseri province, was chosen as the research area, which has largely preserved its architectural originality even after 84 years. As a result of this research, aims to draw attention to the preservation and transfer of historical buildings (the main building, dormitory buildings, cinema and theater hall, gymnasium, workshops, teachers' clubhouse, bakery, toilets, garage, lodgings, hammam and laundry) in Pazarören, which share the same fate with village institutes in many provinces today, to future generations. In the research, the status of the buildings by examining them on site, interviews with teachers who were educated in Pazarören, historical and architectural texts, scientific articles, and publications were used as data sources. In this context, 18 people educated at Pazarören Village Institute in different periods (1943-1968) were reached. Questionnaires were used to measure the impact of the façade and spatial features of the historical buildings on the campus on the people, and an evaluation of the façade and spatial features of the "Main Building", which is currently under restoration, was made within the scope of the Semantic Differentiation Scale (SDS). As a result, it has been observed and understood that the buildings in the Pazarören Village Institute Campus are not only effective physical features but also important elements of heritage that reflect the cultural memory and identity of the society. The findings of the research will help to emphasize the importance of Pazarören Village Institute, which is a valuable example of Republican period educational buildings on the path of modernization and enlightenment, to protect its cultural and social value, to repair and re-function old buildings, and to revitalize the region by introducing it closely.
