Abstract

The investigation dealt with the ultimate load behavior of plate girders formed from steel & concrete that encountered both bending and shear action using the finite element analysis method. To establish their final load behavior, five composite girders were failure testing. Three of the girders, with either no web apertures, circular web holes, or square web openings, were designated as control girders. The two additional girders have been strengthened girders. The plate girder's whole length had the same concrete slab compressive strength, slab reinforcement, and girder dimensions. The impact of a strengthening technique on the ultimate load strength and behavior of these girders was investigated using steel plates. By contrasting the finite element with results from the literature, the correctness of the FE approach is determined. The computer program ANSYS 19.3 was used for the research's nonlinear finite element modeling. The outcome indicates that when compared to control girders, strengthened girders with square and circular web openings had final load strengths that were around 26.32% and 46.32% higher than those of the control girders.
