Abstract
- The purpose of this article is twofold. First, it summarises the life and writing of the English diplomat Sir William Temple (1628–99). In a literary career that was strongly influenced by his life in politics, Temple wrote an array of different books, which sold well in Britain and Continental Europe. Second, it outlines the various ways through which we can identify the owners and readers of his works. In doing so, this article demonstrates the prominent reputation that William Temple once enjoyed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
