Abstract

This article compares the means of expressing modality in modern English and Azerbaijani. Modality is a grammatical-semantic category that reflects the speaker's attitude toward the expressed idea and its relationship to objective reality. This category manifests in various forms within the grammatical system of both languages, utilizing a range of linguistic tools. The article focuses on primary modality markers in English and Azerbaijani, such as modal verbs, intonation, verb forms, and word order. It provides a thorough analysis of how these markers function differently across the grammatical structures of each language, offering insight into their unique characteristics. The particular role of modal verbs in English and their function in conveying nuanced modal meanings is given special attention. The article also highlights how modal expressions are structured in Azerbaijani, reflecting the language's unique grammatical framework, with an in-depth examination of these distinctions. This detailed comparison enhances our understanding of how modality is represented across both languages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
