Armenian Libraries from Afar and Up Close: The Example of Major Armenian Libraries.

The last decade of the existence of the Soviet Union is considered by many as years of development, and many, who lived through that period, still remember those years very fondly. In many independent post-Soviet countries numerous problems required urgent solutions. This article describes the condition of libraries in Soviet Armenia and in independent Armenia, and informs about development trends, problems, and attempts to resolve them. The introduction of information technology in Armenian libraries has been quite complex and uneven, but it has had a unifying effect on library policy and librarians. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
