Abstract

The article "Clinical governance in intensive care medicine" emphasizes the importance of patient safety in intensive care units (ICUs) and introduces the concept of clinical governance (CG) as a means to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care. CG involves components such as systems awareness, teamwork, communication, ownership, and leadership, which are essential for quality improvement. Practical applications of CG in ICUs include patient and family-centered care, effective teamwork and communication, staff management and well-being, checklists, auditing, benchmarking, incident reporting, morbidity and mortality conferences, and multidisciplinary simulation. By utilizing these tools, ICUs can enhance patient outcomes and promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and collective learning. [Extracted from the article]
