Abstract

Among the human activities involved in the growing imbalances observed today on a global scale, technical activity holds a central place. Other ways of producing, but also of designing, are to be invented. This paper is based on two case studies of technical innovation aimed at sustainability in very different contexts (mining in Brazil on the one hand, circular management of organic matter recovery in Nouvelle Aquitaine in France on the other hand). It aims to address both questions. What role of technology in ecological and societal transitions? And what conditions and characteristics of design and innovation processes can support and facilitate desirable professional and instrumental geneses?.To do this, we will first take a quick look at the place of technology in the Anthropocene. We will then make a diversion through the appropriation process approach and anthropotechnology to help us think about the desirable rationalities of action for sustainable design processes.
