Abstract

The article critiques Judith Butler's theory of precariousness, focusing on the ontological aspects of interdependency, equality, and vulnerability. It argues that Butler's ontology is transhistorical and rooted in capitalist society, failing to adequately critique capitalist violence and domination. The article highlights the dangers of ontological critiques for social justice and emancipatory theory, emphasizing the need for historical materialist analysis to reveal the ideological underpinnings of existing ontologies. The critique exposes the limitations of Butler's theory in addressing the sources of capitalist violence and domination, calling for a more nuanced understanding of interdependency and equality within the context of capitalism.
