Abstract

The article in Herpetological Review discusses the introduction and distribution of the Giant Ameiva (Ameiva ameiva) in Florida, USA. The species was first recorded in Miami and Key West in the 1950s, with subsequent populations identified in Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier, and Palm Beach counties. The article presents new county records for the species in nine additional counties in Florida, based on digital images vouchered at the Florida Museum of Natural History. The observations suggest that the species is widely distributed in urbanized areas of Florida, likely due to released or escaped individuals from the pet trade. [Extracted from the article]
