Abstract

This study investigates how the educational experiences of incarcerated women throughout their lives can be analyzed, based on statistical data regarding the number of imprisoned women and their educational levels, as relevant factors in understanding their trajectories that culminated in incarceration. Focusing on women's penitentiary institutions in the state of Minas Gerais, the analysis recounts the multiple dimensions of oppression faced by these women, including issues of gender, race, social class, family context, and violence, as well as their interactions with the justice system. The objective is to map their educational paths and investigate how these experiences may have contributed to their vulnerability to criminality. Understanding these elements is essential for an in-depth analysis of the paths that led these women to the prison system. Furthermore, the study seeks to understand incarcerated women's perceptions of the role of education in their lives, considering how education can serve as a tool for personal and social re-signification after imprisonment. These perceptions are crucial to discussing education as a potential agent of transformation for these women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
