This essay aims to analyze the historical development of society and the impacts of forms of organization of production on society and people. In this sense, the main observations of Freud (2019 - original work from 1936) are described in the work Malaise in Civilization, aiming to update these observations with the Frankfurtian critical lens and the vision of the Science of Regional Development, through aspects considered basic. As time passed, especially after the 1990s, civilization, described here as society, began to have more supersymbolic structural elements. Issues such as environmental management and inequality brought closer ties to the concept of social management and require an interpretative analysis of social and organizational phenomena, with a view to a vision more focused on the common good, highlighting more flexible forms of organizing production and aligned with demands. social issues, involving multidimensional issues and the mobilization of all agents in society, as well as people's worldview and their psychic relationships.
