Abstract

The article examines the media response to the school shootings at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado in 1999. A student, who was trapped inside the school during the shootings, was covered by KUSA-TV, a local television station. The student called the station instead of 911. The coverage resulted to a question of why the station would risk the student's well-being on the air. Other newscasters interviewed some students about their experiences during the incident. Others interviewed grieving parents who shared their every emotion.
