CA Offers Patented Tech to Open-Source Developers.

This article reports that Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) announced plans to make proprietary technologies covered under 14 CA patents available to individuals and groups working on open-source projects. The action by the Islandia, New York-based software vendor comes eight months after IBM Corp. announced a similar move, opening 500 of its patents to the open-source community in January 2005. Part of the company's motivation is to be able to say that the next generation of innovation is going to come from open-source.
