Abstract

This study investigated the critical factors in the psychotherapeutic care of gay Black men. A qualitative and exploratory research was conducted with four psychotherapists from Rondônia, utilizing the Phenomenological Method of Investigation in Psychology for the analysis of the interviews. Four main factors were identified: Intersectional Awareness of Oppression (IAO), Challenges of Intersectional Practice (CIP), Dynamic Intersectional Perspective (DIP), and Psychotherapeutic Identity Dissonance (PID). It concludes that understanding and integrating these critical factors can prevent errors and enhance the effectiveness of care. These factors can contribute to the training of psychotherapists, through a clear adoption of intersectionality with multi-identity marginalized clientele. It is suggested that future studies should evaluate the application of these factors in other intersectional settings and critically investigate care for diverse populations subjected to various forms of oppression.
