Abstract

This article examines the relationship between perceptions of role ambiguity and athlete retention as reflected in the athletes' intentions to return to their sport. Role ambiguity has been considered to influence both the performance effectiveness of teams and shown to be associated with the psychosocial well-being of a team members including athlete satisfaction. The study assesses the attitude of 58 competitive club soccer players. Overall, the results indicated that role ambiguity was negatively related to intentions to return to the team but was unrelated to intentions to return to the sport of level of play.
