Abstract

The article reports that the British, French and German governments are scrutinizing their defense industrial strategies, reflecting concern that too many crown jewels are being squandered. The work is being done with a sense of urgency, because the government wants to stay ahead of contractors, who are already planning further realignments. The review will not have been fully completed by the end of 2005, but detailed study results to be available by then on critical areas, such as fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned aircraft, helicopters, guided weapons and other munitions, armored fighting vehicles, shipbuilding and ship support.
