Abstract

The article reports that director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mohamed ElBaradei, has been reappointed by acclamation for a third term by the agency's board of governors. ElBaradei accepted the appointment, which will be submitted for formal approval at the IAEA's general conference in September 2005 in Vienna, Austria. The director-general will serve as head of the IAEA for another four years until November 2009. ElBaradei said he would continue to maintain the qualities of high impartiality and independence, which are so important to the reputation of the IAEA. The IAEA chief said he was humbled by the unanimous support and confidence he had received by all members of the agency's board of governors.
