Abstract
- This article refers to a research conducted in Los Angeles, California, to examine the interaction between patients' trait reactance (the tendency to resist relinquishing control in interpersonal situations) and therapists' directiveness on the effectiveness of psychotherapy treatment for alcoholism. The research was conducted using patients and treatment providers from a single clinical research unit in Providence, California. Patient trait reactance was measured by observer ratings with the 25-item Reactance Scale from the Systematic Treatment Selection Clinician Rating Form. This research was published in a previous issue of the "Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology."
