Abstract
- The article investigates the influence of living with immigrants on natives' likelihood of voting in the U.S. The use of Current Population Survey data is used in analyzing household level characteristics. It tried to understand how family influences individual turnout by looking at nativity/citizenship makeup of a household. Among natives, compared to those who only live with native counterparts, those who reside with foreign born citizens or aliens have a lower level of turnout. Yet this negative impact of living with aliens not found among foreign born citizens. Living arrangement has an asymmetrical impact on foreign born citizens. Foreign born citizens' turnout is not dampened by living with someone who cannot vote.
