Abstract

The article reports on how to make a paper patchwork quilt that documents a family history. Quilts had many uses--they were sewn to keep people warm or to express what was deepest in their creators' hearts--beauty, pain, worries, joys, and hopes. In piecing together their quilts, the sewers were like any artist: they took all the things they saw and experienced and used their imaginations to create great, lasting works of art. Each scrap of material used for the patches, or panels, that make up a quilt came from a cloth or item of clothing that was once used or worn by someone from the past.
