Abstract: The article looks at actor Peter Sarsgaard's role as a Marine sharpshooter in the war film "Jarhead," directed by Sam Mendes. Sarsgaard has also appeared in the motion pictures "Kinsey," "Boys Don't Cry," "Garden State," and "The Dying Gaul." "Jarhead" is based on a memoir by Anthony Swofford. The film looks at the impact of war on soldiers. The leading role in "Jarhead" is played by Jake Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal and Sarsgaard lived together prior to filming in order to simulate what it is like for soldiers forced to be together every day and night.
