Abstract

The article focuses on the mysterious diamond found at a Wisconsin pasture by Stanley Devine during the 1800s. Things important to the story happened before Stanley picked up the diamond in his father's cornfield. Stanley's father, Charles Devine, showed the pebble found by Stanley to a jeweler, who thought it was a diamond. Charles then took it to the university, where he got in to see a geology assistant named William Herbert Hobbs. Hobbs looked at Stanley's pebble, tested it and confirmed that it was a diamond. In 1899, Hobbs put his conclusion about the diamond on a paper.
