Abstract
- The article features African American pianist and jazz composer Duke Ellington. Musical arrangers criticize the compositions of Ellington. He learned music through self-studying. He played a part in the establishment of the band Washingtonians. Critics commended his performance at a concert held at Carnegie Hall in New York City in January 1943.
