Abstract
- The article presents the portrait of athlete Bill Pierce, a pre-flight cadet at the University of Pennsylvania. He is causing a crash landing in the pole jump trials of the Middle Atlantic Amateur Athletic Association meet at Franklin Field, Philadelphia. He bulged of the sawdust, made a few choice remarks to his broken pole and placed third in the tough competition.
