Abstract

The article presents information related to academic libraries in the U.S. It is reported that convergence of media into increasingly smaller portable appliances have revolutionized American culture and hence library systems in the U.S. Rapidly changing technological innovations have brought many changes in academic libraries. Online information resources and other non-library Web sites are incorporated into the library science to give a new dimension to it. The process of digitization liberates the American library system, which in turn improved library resources. According to the article, the digital marketplace of knowledge needs library organizations that can add value to the system. The creation of library-centric bibliographic records, maintenance, and organization of the vast number of indexes and abstracts explain to the user of how this static information universe works. Librarians in the U.S. reveal that their institutions and collections enjoy an institutional right that shelters them from the economic consequences of free and open access of their collections.
