Abstract

This paper presents a short summary report of fieldwork undertaken as part of the ongoing Bloody Meadows Project in Greece in 2002 and 2003. This paper moves further back in time than previous research of the project to consider battles of the Classical Greek and Roman periods. The Bloody Meadows Project takes a comparative landscape approach to the study of battlefields, combining an interest in battlefields as places where past events took place with a concern for the way in which they are remembered, marked and memorialised in the present. The results presented aim to offer an insight into the way these places were seen in the past and the way we understand them today. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
