Abstract
- The article reflects on the development of fractional approaches in special education in the U.S. The author points out that there were several criticisms on fractional practices in special education, but some of the criticisms rely on particular psychometric position regarding the nature of man's abilities. Several philosophers and pioneer practitioners of fractional approach were J. Itard, E. Seguin, and O. Declory, whose training approaches emphasized more on sensory and motor training, which then translated into modern day special education practices.
