Abstract
- The article reports that the U.S. military has quietly expanded its prisons in Afghanistan, where it is indefinitely holding 500 terror suspects without charges. The author reviews how an international debate has taken place over the future of the American detention center at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. According to the author, the prison in Afghanistan holds mostly Afghan detainees who might eventually be released under an amnesty program or be transferred to a newly build prison. Details of the conditions and operations at the U.S. facility in Bagram are reviewed.
