Abstract

The article reports that the Google Inc, has reassured its users the latest version of its Desktop Search application does not pose security risk contrary to some privacy watchdogs have asserted. The company introduced a beta of its next-generation version of the PC application, the Google Desktop 3 for Enterprise, including a new feature dubbed Search Across Computers that has caused watchers to label the new software as posing serious privacy risk. The software permits users with registered Google accounts to mine for information stored on multiple computers they work on and get data remotely from their desktops. The act of the EMC Corp. on adding the software to one of its Documentum business unit's enterprise content management products is a way of assuring users of the security the application has.
