Abstract

The article reports that the Army Research Laboratory Major Shared Resource Center (MSRC), A U.S. Army supercomputing laboratory, is purchasing four Linux Networx Inc. Advanced Technology Clusters including a system with 4 488 processing cores with each node made up of two dual-core Intel Xeon chips. According to Army officials, the new tools will increase the computing capability of the MSRC to more than 80 trillion floating-point operations per second. Charles J. Nietubicz, director of the MSRC, was convinced that clusters can work based on the ability of the laboratory to achieve certain computational codes used in fluid dynamics.
