Abstract
- A study is in progress to experimentally characterize the mechanical durability of optical fiber sensor systems. The systems under consideration utilize fiber Bragg gratings written into single mode fiber during the draw process. The fibers are then protected with a polyimide coating. A thorough search of the literature pertinent to this study has been conducted and is summarized here. Also preliminary experimental results are discussed along with plans for future work. © 2006 American Institute of Physics [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
